VISA 0150 Works

Taking VISA 0150 in Fall 2022, I am learning digital mediums of how to create art. Syllabus

Project 1: "Cutting Line"

Utilizing the BDW laser cutter, acryllic, and Java, I was able to lasercut numerous unique 2" x 2" acryllic squares.

Using Java to create 8 unique points and connect them with a line, I created a 6 x 6 pattern of these figures on each acryllic square.

Building a CYBERNETIC CITY, I used an Arduino and a 3D Printer to create pulsing lights, a cable-inspired tree, and bezels.

The effect was to create a technocratic society so swarmed with information it pulses ominously every second, and appears mysteriously vacant.

I thoroughly enjoyed creating this project, and got to use a lot of BDW equipment to do so. Often heavily inspired by randomness and generative art,

I hope to address agency, dystopia, and technocracy with more works in the future.

Project 2: "Color as Medium"

Utilizing the Multimedia Lab's Large 2D Format Printer, I was able to use Adobe Illustrator to print an 11x7 inch poster of a trippy landscape.

The purpose of the project is to prove Kant wrong, by using color in an additive way and in a subtractive way, for both a screen and print work.

I was heavily inspired by an Inception-esque, end of the world, screen-saver, Surrealist, yet bored, overly colorful print of a pathway to a trippy rectangular prismatic landscape.

The two works have the same source material, but differ with layering order and blend modes to highlight the difference between the screen and print!

Project 3: "Steal this Book"

Plagarizing, copying, and not using any of my own material, I created a zine about identity theft, surveillance capitalism, and my personal identity.

The cover is material from all of my IDs that have been scanned into the cloud. When you open, you will be met with an article about online safety.

Protecting your private information, phishing scams, and all risk put on yourself to stay safe online, when the real threat is the surplus of data that large corperation keeps on your behalf.

The next pages include metadata I have dowloaded from social media accounts, screenshots of search histories, messages, emails, calendars, and anything else that is stored online.

This project aims to show that we have AVATARS AND IDENTITIES that exist sepearte from ourselves on the web, and they are in the hands of big data.

Final Project: Immersive Experience

The purpose of this final project is to use skills learned throughout the entire course to create a technically challenging project.

Utilizing a software called Max, I created an immersive environment with a projector and a camera, utilizing found video and my own artwork.

I used Adobe Animate, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop to create the video to be used within the Max patch. Utilizing live video,

when a person approaches the screen and camera, the video will fade into the live camera shot, leaving the individual to question their own identity.

This project focuses on self-reflection and identity within the age of surveillance capitalism and information saturation,

and creates a unique experience for each individual who interacts with the exhibit.
